Clear Braces
Clear (ceramic) braces are made of a transparent material that blends in with the natural color of teeth. They are also less noticeable than metal braces, making them attractive to teens or adults who want to avoid drawing attention to their orthodontic treatment.
Differences Between Ceramic & Metal Braces
Traditional braces tend to be better at tolerating pressure than clear braces as they are made of ceramic.
Ceramic braces have slightly more friction when moving your teeth, so it can take a little more time to align them. However, If you would like Dr. Michael or Dr. Taylor to have you fitted for ceramic braces, we would be happy to go over your treatment options.
Whether you are team metal or team ceramic, both types of braces work on the same principles and tend to be effective choices in getting the most out of your smile.
You may be worried about ceramic braces staining, but that’s a minor issue. Ceramic brackets don’t actually stain. However, the adhesive used to attach the brackets to the teeth and the clear elastic ties used to hold the wires in place can get a little discolored over time. This can give an overall impression of staining while you develop your perfect smile. Choosing to avoid things like coffee and tea, red wine, tomatoes, mustard, etc., can help cut back on the chances of any staining.
If you’re interested in clear braces, Dr. Michael or Dr. Taylor will change your elastics at every adjustment appointment, so you can maintain a clear, confident smile between treatments.
